It was necessary to disable some of Lockdown's tracker blocking in order to sign into Facebook Messenger (because Facebook itself is a tracker), so the test underreports the amount of tracking connections. Facebook is entirely black-box with no transparency or regard for user privacy in its 15 years of operation. Their messenger refuses to enable default end-to-end encryption (even though most other messengers have this) because Facebook makes its profits by reading and analyzing the personal messages, photos, and videos of its users. We recommend using an open and transparent messenger instead, like Signal.

Facebook Messenger's Privacy Rating is F. We found 1 different third-party trackers in the Facebook Messenger app, and there were 12 attempted tracking connections detected during our test.
